QUEEN’S PARK – Official Opposition MPPs Terence Kernaghan, along with Consumer Protection critic Tom Rakocevic, Affordability critic Bhutila Karpoche, and Finance critic Catherine Fife are introducing legislation to protect consumers from NOSIs (Notice of Security Interest), a predatory practice often used in HVAC scams.
“It is time to end the disgraceful practice of HVAC Scams which target and victimize vulnerable seniors, people living with disabilities, and those with language barriers such as newcomers,” said Kernaghan. “For far too long insidious scammers have pressured homeowners to sign these horrible contracts by predatory salespeople. This horrible practice has been going on for years and years and the government has done next to nothing to help the victims of these scams.”
“You shouldn’t have to spend loads of time and money in the courts trying to undo something that’s so obviously wrong. NOSIs should be banned. This Bill will stop predatory salespeople from scamming and preying on elderly consumers and vulnerable members of society,” added Rakocevic.
